BYD to Launch Solid-State Battery Mass Production by 2027, Large-Scale Deployment by 2030

At the Second China All-Solid-State Battery Innovation Development Summit, Sun Huajun, CTO of BYD Lithium Battery Co., Ltd., announced that the company plans to start mass demonstration vehicle applications for solid-state batteries around 2027, with large-scale deployment expected after 2030.

The key areas for solid-state battery penetration include mid-to-high-end power batteries, consumer batteries, and eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) batteries. According to CITIC Securities’ research team, the global solid-state battery shipment volume is expected to reach 556GWh by 2030. As solid-state battery technology advances, demand for related equipment is expected to grow first.

The “Solid-State Lithium Battery Technology Development White Paper” reports that domestic solid-state battery production capacity is already in the hundreds of GWh, which is expected to significantly boost investment in solid-state battery equipment. The forecast suggests that by 2030, China’s solid-state battery equipment investment could reach approximately 17.81 billion yuan.
